Did you know that carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common hand and wrist issue in the US? The classic symptoms of CTS include numbness and tingling in the thumb, index, and middle fingers. As the condition progresses, you may begin to experience pain and even lose hand function. Many people who reach the advanced stages of CTS often opt for surgery because the pain becomes unbearable.

If you suspect you’re beginning to experience CTS symptoms, there are a few things you can do to potentially reverse the aggravation:

  1. Keep your wrist as neutral as possible. Bending or extending your wrist puts stress on the median nerve, which causes CTS. Investing in a wrist brace may be a good idea.

  2. Evaluate the ergonomics of your workstation. Those who work ast a computer are at high risk of developing CTS. Ensure you have an ergonomic keyboard and proper hand support to reduce wrist strain.

  3. Ice your wrist as needed. Inflammation and swelling in the carpal tunnel are common in those with CTS. Icing can help reduce the inflammation.

If you are still not finding relief, be sure to seek treatment before the problem worsens. Physical therapy and dry needling are great starting points, and we have plenty of success stories to share!
